Fallout creator Tim Cain is returning to Obsidian full-time, confirming he’s working on an undisclosed new project at the studio.

Tim Cain, the legendary creator who brought us Fallout, has come out of semi-retirement. He announced that he is returning to work at Obsidian Entertainment as a full-time employee, and is currently working on a project.

Tim Cain Makes Again At Obsidian Entertainment

Team Cain and Obsidian Entertainment have been around for a long time. The Fallout creator originally joined the studio as a programmer in 2011, and has worked on numerous titles including South Park and Pillars of Eternity. He finally left in 2020 but is juggling remote contract work, even co-directing The Outer Worlds and consulting on its sequel that came out this year.

On a YouTube video he posted on his channel, he confirmed that he was returning to Obsidian Entertainment full-time. No remote work and no working on titles elsewhere. He also mentioned that he is working on a new project at the studio but does not have the legal capacity to reveal anything as he is under an NDA.

Of course, fans are speculating about what this could be, and are even excited for a new Fallout game. However, this seems impossible because Cain said, “Don’t bother guessing, you won’t guess right.” With this line, I think it’s safe to say this isn’t Fallout.

Regarding his YouTube channel, Cain said that no one from Obsidian stopped him from running it. At the end of the day, this is a private channel and he is a veteran in the industry so he knows what is and what is not covered in an NDA.

Between the launch of Avowed, The Outer Worlds 2, and Grounded 2, plus the full return of Tim Cain, 2025 is a big year for Obsidian Entertainment.
